Joseph Ferlazzo has been convicted of murdering his wife, Emily Jean Schwarz, during a 2021 anniversary trip in Vermont.
The jury in Vermont found Ferlazzo guilty of killing and dismembering 22-year-old Schwarz in October of that year, during a trip the couple had taken to celebrate their first wedding anniversary.
The couple was staying in a converted bus when Ferlazzo returned home without Schwarz, prompting her family to report her missing.
Ferlazzo initially told authorities that they had an argument, and Schwarz had left in anger.

However, as the investigation progressed, Ferlazzo confessed to killing her inside the vehicle, and authorities discovered her dismembered remains inside the bus.
During the trial, Ferlazzo claimed the murder occurred in self-defense, but the jury found his version of events inconsistent with the evidence presented.
Schwarz’s family expressed relief at the conviction, as justice was served for the young woman, who had dreamed of becoming a cosmetologist and was remembered for her strength and positive spirit.
