Okyere, 23, arrived in the country in 2024 to start a new chapter in life, living with his older sister, Lydia Obeng, in the city of Regina.

Okyere had recently started a part-time job at DSI Underground Canada, a mining supply company, hoping to build a future in his new home.

However, just days into the job, the unthinkable happened. He was allegedly attacked by his co-worker, 53-year-old Troy Francis Leclair, and stabbed more than a dozen times during a workplace altercation.

According to Okyere’s sister, Ms. Obeng, the police informed the family that he was stabbed 17 times in a span of just 30 seconds.

“Alfred was very calm and peaceful; he never got into trouble,” Ms. Obeng told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

“When the police came to break the news, I couldn’t believe it until they brought me his belongings.”

The shocking incident unfolded at the DSI Underground facility, where Okyere had worked for a few days before the attack.

Police were called to the scene, finding Okyere suffering from severe stab wounds. He was rushed to the hospital but was sadly pronounced dead soon after.

Although the circumstances leading up to the tragic event remain unclear, police have charged Leclair with murder.

The family is still waiting for more information from the authorities regarding what led to the violent altercation.
