On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Pam Bondi was sworn in as the new U.S. Attorney General, taking the oath of office in the Oval Office, with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas administering the ceremony.
Bondi, a former Florida prosecutor and state attorney general, was surrounded by friends and family as she stepped into the role of leading the nation’s Justice Department.
Bondi’s appointment has been met with both praise and scrutiny. President Donald Trump, who nominated her, expressed strong support, calling her “unbelievably fair and unbelievably good” and confident that she would “restore fair and impartial justice” to the department.
He went on to emphasize that she would be as impartial as possible, especially when dealing with the political spectrum.
The new attorney general’s mission is clear: to restore integrity to the Justice Department and end what she sees as the “weaponization” of the department for political gain.

In her confirmation hearings last month, Bondi promised that under her leadership, the department would operate without partisanship, ensuring “one tier of justice for all.”
Her nomination had earned widespread approval from more than 110 former senior Justice Department officials, including former attorneys general from both major political parties.
They praised her bipartisan approach and leadership, believing she will bring a balanced perspective to the department.
However, Bondi’s first days on the job are expected to be filled with challenges, including navigating reassignments, lawsuits, and senior law enforcement resignations.
Hours after her swearing-in, two groups of FBI agents filed lawsuits to block the public identification of employees involved in the January 6 investigations, adding to the immediate controversies Bondi will need to address.
