In a devastating incident in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, a 31-year-old man, Vanapalli Chandra Kishore, killed his two young sons, aged 6 and 7, before taking his own life. The tragedy unfolded on the night of March 14, 2025, leaving the community in shock and disbelief.
According to police reports, Kishore, an accountant at the ONGC office in Kakinada, took extreme measures after becoming deeply concerned about his children’s academic struggles.
He left behind a suicide note, which revealed that he feared his children would not thrive in a competitive world due to their poor academic performance.
The two boys, Joshith (7) and Nikhil (6), were struggling with their studies, as one was in upper kindergarten (UKG) and the other in first grade.
Kishore’s shocking actions were carried out in the family home in Ramanayyapet, where he tied the boys’ hands and legs before drowning them in two separate buckets of water.
The family was financially stable, making his actions even more difficult to comprehend, said police inspector B Peddi Raju.

Kishore’s wife, Tanuja Sai Rani, had been with him and the children at the ONGC office for Holi celebrations earlier that day.

After Kishore told her he would take the children to a tailor to get new school uniforms, she grew worried when they didn’t return. After repeated calls went unanswered, Tanuja went to their home with one of Kishore’s colleagues.
There, they discovered Kishore hanging from the ceiling, while their two sons were found lifeless in the bathroom.
Neighbors described the family as friendly and normal, with no prior indications of such an extreme tragedy. The couple had even planned to transfer the children to a new school to help with their academic difficulties.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
While Kishore’s note pointed to his concerns about his children’s futures, authorities are looking into other possible factors that may have led to this heartbreaking decision.
Tanuja and relatives are being questioned to help understand the full context of what led to this tragic event.
