A Florida man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after two severed cat heads were found in a mailbox outside a Bonita Springs home.
The disturbing discovery was made on Thursday, March 13, prompting an immediate investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).
According to the LCSO, authorities called in their Animal Cruelty Task Force to assist with the investigation.
The department used advanced technology, including license plate readers (LPR), to analyze the crime scene and track down the suspect, 37-year-old Robert James Luther III.

Later that day, Luther was located fishing near the crime scene. Though he was questioned by officers, Luther invoked his rights and refused to cooperate.
The investigation continued, and detectives uncovered further evidence linking Luther to the crime.
Disturbing cell phone videos were found, in which Luther can be seen discussing and showing the severed cat heads.
Luther has been charged with two counts of aggravated animal cruelty and two counts of aggravated stalking.
The LCSO condemned his actions, with Sheriff Carmine Marceno calling the act “heinous” and vowing that Luther would face severe consequences under the law.
