VIDEO: Cypriot Dancer Balances 468 Wine Glasses on His Head While Dancing

Dinos Kkantis, a Cypriot dancer, performed an incredible feat in which he balanced 468 wine glasses on his head while dancing, a performance that could land him in the Guinness World Records.

The feat took place during an Easter Tuesday celebration in Aradippou, where Kkantis showcased the “Dance of the Glasses,” a traditional routine that involves dancing with progressively larger stacks of glasses balanced on the head.

Kkantis’ performance has been submitted for verification by Guinness World Records, which will review video and other evidence before confirming the record. If approved, he will surpass the current record of 319 wine glasses, set in May 2023 by Aristotelis Valaoritis, another Cypriot performer renowned for his “glass dancing” expertise. Check out the video below.

Interestingly, the tradition of glass dancing seems to be a point of national pride in Cyprus. Before Valaoritis’ achievement, the record was held by Ntinos Kkanti, who balanced 270 wine glasses in an earlier performance.

Whether or not Kkantis officially takes the title, his amazing performance confirms Cyprus’s reputation as a home to record-breaking glass dancers. It’s not clearly established whether the two “Kkantis” (Dinos and Ntinos) are related or not.

Cyprus may be making headlines right now for Dinos Kkantis’ incredible accomplishment of dancing with 468 wine glasses balanced on his head, but the skill of glass balancing goes well beyond the Mediterranean. Sommeliers all throughout the world have their own glass-handling tricks that involve talent, efficiency, and a dash of boldness.

Most of us find it difficult to hold a single wineglass gracefully. However, in 2007, a sommelier in Barcelona was able to stack and carry 39 wine glasses in one hand, a feat that most would think impossible.

The story does not end there. In 2012, Philip Osenton, an international wine professional and former head sommelier at London’s Savoy Hotel, defied expectations by holding 45 wine glasses in one hand. As if that wasn’t enough, he later outdid himself with an incredible 51 glasses, setting a record that still stands today.
