AOC Responds as New 2028 Primary Polls Put Her Top Among Democrats
Quick summary
  • New Hampshire primary polling puts Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in first place for the 2028 Democratic nomination, narrowly ahead of Pete Buttigieg.
  • Emerson College polling shows a tight contest among top prospective contenders, including Buttigieg, Ocasio-Cortez, Gavin Newsom, and Jon Ossoff.
  • Ocasio-Cortez stated she feels "flattered and humbled" by the support while refusing to rule out a 2028 White House run.
  • Vice President JD Vance identified Ocasio-Cortez as a likely frontrunner for the Democratic ticket.

WASHINGTON — Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she feels “flattered” as early primary surveys rank her among the top choices for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination.

A Granite State Poll released by the University of New Hampshire shows the New York progressive slightly ahead of former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg among likely primary voters. The survey of 648 voters placed Ocasio-Cortez in first place, building fresh momentum around a prospective White House run.

When asked about her rise in the polls, the congresswoman expressed gratitude while keeping her focus on the broader political landscape.

”Well, I feel very deeply flattered and humbled,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I don’t want to discount how supportive people have been. It genuinely is very meaningful.”

She added that public service requires putting national interest ahead of personal strategy.

”We also want to make sure that we’re making decisions that put the country first. So I’m just thankful for the support.”

The New Hampshire results mirror broader national trends showing Ocasio-Cortez near the front of a crowded field. A separate survey from Emerson College placed Buttigieg in the top spot, with Ocasio-Cortez, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff close behind.

The congresswoman has not closed the door on a 2028 presidential bid. Speaking to reporters, she declined to rule out a campaign.

Political figures on both sides of the aisle are taking notice. Vice President JD Vance named Ocasio-Cortez as his expectation for the top Democratic contender in the next election cycle. In response, Ocasio-Cortez stated she hopes Vance wins his party’s nomination as well.

Speculation regarding Ocasio-Cortez’s political future has grown steadily over recent months. While observers watch her polling numbers, the lawmaker insists her long-term goal extends past elective office.

Addressing questions about her career path, Ocasio-Cortez pushed back against simple political motives.

She noted that “they assume that my ambition is a title or a seat.”

”And my ambition is way bigger than that. My ambition is to change this country.”
