Bank Of Ghana has announced that the GH¢1 And GH¢2 Notes will soon be phased out, meaning no more circulation of the notes since it will be removed from the system.
This new development was confirmed by the Governor of Bank Of Ghana (BOG), Dr Ernest Addison.
Dr Ernest Addison told journalists on Monday, September 27th, 2021 that the notes will soon be phased out and will be replaced by their currently circulating coin versions.
According to him the cedi notes will soon be phased out because they are not cost-effective, and also added that they mostly return torn, soiled and dirty.
“In the long run, the plan is that the one and two cedi notes should be phased out. They are not cost-effective. They mostly return torn, soiled and dirty. We’ve bails and bails of those two and so the view is to get them out and use the coins,” he said.
This new development has brought about mixed reactions on social media as users react to the news in an angry manner bashing the leadership of the country/ NPP Government for not caring about the citizens but rather always looking for ways to made themselves richer.
