A 15.3% reduction in prices has been announced by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other road transportation businesses.
On Monday, December 19, the new rates will take effect and will be used for haulage, shared taxis, and both intra- and inter-city travel.
This information was released in a press release on Friday, December 16. Following increased requests for a fee reduction due to the recent small drop in petroleum product prices, the announcement was made during a last-minute meeting with stakeholders.
Although stakeholders said the percentage decline took into account the difficulty faced by drivers, commuters, and the general public, the most recent charge hike was 19 percent.
“We kindly request all commercial transport operators to comply with the new fares and post same at their loading terminals,” the joint announcement read.
“We further request all operators, commuters, and the general public to kindly cooperate for the successful implementation of the new fares.”
