Aitana Bonmati has made history by winning the women’s Ballon d’Or for the second year in a row, solidifying her status as one of the world’s premier footballers.
The 26-year-old midfielder, representing Spain and Barcelona, received the prestigious award in Paris after an extraordinary season.
Bonmati played a pivotal role in Barcelona’s historic quadruple achievement, as the club clinched Liga F, the Champions League, Supercopa, and Copa de la Reina.
Her remarkable performance included a career-best tally of 19 goals across all competitions, showcasing her versatility and skill on the field.

In addition to her club success, Bonmati was instrumental in Spain’s triumph in the inaugural Women’s Nations League, contributing four goals, including a crucial strike in the final against France.
Upon accepting her award, Bonmati expressed her gratitude, stating, “Thank you so much for your applause. I’m so grateful to be here to receive this award for the second time.
I always say this is not something that you can do alone; I’m so lucky to be surrounded by wonderful players who help me to keep growing into a better player.”
The ceremony also recognized the achievements of other players, with England’s Lauren James finishing 13th in the voting, while her teammates Lucy Bronze and Lauren Hemp placed 20th and 28th, respectively.

In a noteworthy addition, Emma Hayes was honored as the first winner of the women’s coach of the year award after leading Chelsea to a fifth straight Women’s Super League title and guiding the United States to Olympic gold in Paris 2024.
