Akufo-Addo Statue at Effia Nkwanta Completely Destroyed

The statue of former Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, prominently displayed at the Effia Nkwanta roundabout in Sekondi-Takoradi, has been mysteriously demolished.

The incident according to reports occurred at about 1:30 am on January 13, 2025. This is the second attempt on the statue after the first attempt on December 16, 2024, where unidentified individuals inflicted damage to the statue’s leg.

According to police sources, the second incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 13, 2025. “By the time we got there, the damage had already been done,” a police source disclosed. The statue, which had been erected to honor the former president, was completely toppled, with severe damage from the head to the knee area.

The statue, unveiled on November 6, 2024, has faced significant scrutiny and controversy since its installation. Following the December vandalism, a gaping hole in the left leg raised suspicions among residents, with theories ranging from deliberate sabotage to structural defects.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations are underway to uncover the cause of this latest act and bring the culprits to justice.
