Kate Middleton has been bestowed with a new historic title by her father, King Charles III.

The Princess of Wales was made a Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour by the British Queen on Tuesday. The first royal family member to be named to the Companions of Honour is a mother of three children.

King George V established the order in 1917, according to Harper’s Bazaar. It honours achievements in the fields of public service, science, medicine, and the arts. It is one of the most illustrious royal appointments, according to the site.

There are presently 65 members of the order, including J.K. Rowling, Paul McCartney, and Elton John. On April 23, also known as St. George’s Day in the UK, Buckingham Palace unveiled the updated list of honours on Tuesday.

In addition, Harper’s Bazaar disclosed that Charles named his eldest son, Prince William, Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath during the same ceremony held at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

From 1974 to 2022, Charles, as the Prince of Wales, was the holder of the same order. The source states that Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (1942–1974), and Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1901–1942), were among his predecessors.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire named Queen Camilla, the wife of the king, Grand Master and First or Principal Dame Grand Cross. Prince Philip, the father of the monarch, had the position from 1953 to 2021.

The longest-serving consort in Britain, the Duke of Edinburgh, passed away in 2021 at the age of 99.

Middleton’s most recent royal title is thought to be a show of support from 75-year-old Charles. The princess and the king are both fighting cancer.

Middleton, 42, is well known to be extremely beloved by Charles. The monarch reminisced about William’s 2010 proposal to Middleton during on a state visit to Kenya in 2023. At his address, he referred to her as “my beloved daughter-in-law”.

Middleton is renowned for her displays of adoration for the king. In public, the two give each other cheek kisses and embraces.

As previously reported by People magazine, novelist Sally Bedell Smith said of the king, “he has always had a very good bond with her.”

“She’s interested in artistic things, and she appreciates art and culture, so [she] has an affinity with the king over that.”

Smith, the author of “George VI and Elizabeth: The Marriage That Saved the Monarchy,” claimed that the couple’s cancer illness had given them yet another bond.

“Obviously, they have this in common and can only bring them closer,” she said. “It is a source of reassurance and consolation for both of them.”

According to a February announcement from Buckingham Palace, Charles has been diagnosed with a type of cancer and is receiving treatment. During Charles’ “benign prostate enlargement” surgery at the London Clinic, a “separate issue of concern” was discovered.

Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the palace said in a statement at the time.

In a video shared in March, the Princess of Wales revealed that she, too, is battling a form of cancer, and has been undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment.
