Accra’s creative scene came alive when Apprise Music opened its doors for a special celebration in honor of reggae-dancehall artist Pupa Man. The event, held at the Apprise Music Studios, was filled with laughter, music, and togetherness as guests enjoyed drinks, shared stories, and soaked in the energy of Pupa Man’s catalogue.

The evening was more than just a listening party. It was a chance to connect with the heart of an artist whose music speaks to everyday struggles, faith, and love. From soulful sessions to spirited performances, the atmosphere carried the kind of unity that music alone can inspire.

Who is Pupa Man?

Born Raphael Gabriel Selassie Jr., Pupa Man is a Nigerian-born reggae-dancehall artist who has called Ghana home since 2008. Known as the Black Rebel, he blends the inspiration of reggae icons like Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Mavado, Jah Cure, and Vybz Kartel with his own voice and story.

Speaking about his journey, Pupa Man shared, “I chose the name Pupa Man because it represents my identity as a reggae and dancehall artist.” His tracks Señorita, Omalicha, I Love U, and the fan favorite Lord Almighty have earned him a loyal following, and his debut album The Breakthrough is expected to drop in April 2025.

For him, music is not just entertainment. It is a calling. “Choose your words wisely and ensure your message is meaningful,” he told young artists. “As musicians, we are prophets delivering messages to the people.”

Apprise Music’s mission

Apprise Music has become one of Ghana’s top music distribution and rights management companies, with over a million tracks spanning Afrobeats, Highlife, Gospel, and Reggae. The platform makes it possible for artists to share their music on global platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Boomplay while also supporting them with fair royalty systems, mobile-money integration, and promotions.

But what sets Apprise apart is its passion for celebrating artists, not just distributing their work. Over the years, they have honored names such as Amakye Dede, Pozo Hayes, and Maccasio, recognizing the different ways they have shaped the Ghanaian sound.
