A 27-year-old Arizona mother will spend the rest of her life in prison after pleading guilty to murdering her three children and staging their bodies to appear as if they were asleep, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office confirmed the sentencing of Rachel Henry on February 4.
Henry faced charges of three counts of first-degree murder and dangerous crimes against children, the horrific crime occurred on January 20, 2020, when authorities found the lifeless bodies of her children inside a home near 24th Street and Baseline Road in Phoenix.
The victims were identified as 3-year-old Zane Henry, 23-month-old Miraya Henry, and 7-month-old Catalaya Rios, their great-aunt contacted the Phoenix Police after discovering them unresponsive.
Initially, Rachel Henry claimed she had put them down for a nap and had not checked on them.

However, investigators later revealed that Henry confessed to suffocating her children one by one, according to court records, she smothered her 1-year-old daughter as they played, holding her hand over the child’s mouth until she stopped breathing.
Her 3-year-old son, Zane, tried to stop her by hitting and yelling, but Henry persisted, she then carried him to a bedroom, sang a lullaby, and suffocated him as he struggled to break free.
After killing her son, Henry fed her infant daughter a bottle until the baby fell asleep. She then placed her hand over the 7-month-old’s face until she was no longer breathing.
To cover up her actions, Henry arranged the children’s bodies on a couch, making it appear as though they were sleeping. The details of the case shocked the community, with many struggling to comprehend the brutality of the crime.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell expressed deep sorrow over the case, emphasizing the importance of protecting children. “It’s hard to comprehend how any parent could take the life of their own,” she stated. Mitchell also praised the prosecution team for ensuring justice was served.
Henry will serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole, marking the end of a tragic chapter in Phoenix’s history.
