Reportedly, Arsenal is set to pursue a deal to acquire 22-year-old Eric Garcia, the Barcelona defender, as a replacement for the sidelined Jurren Timber.
As stated in a communication from the Spanish source Football Transfers, Eric Garcia has garnered interest from Arsenal.
The club is actively engaged in negotiating a loan agreement to secure the services of the 22-year-old defender from Barcelona. This strategic move is aimed at temporarily filling the void left by the injured Jurrien Timber.
It appears that Eric Garcia’s return to Barcelona in July 2021 on a Bosman transfer did not align with his anticipated trajectory. The Spanish national, who had previously departed Manchester City as a free agent, disregarded Pep Guardiola’s efforts to retain him at the Etihad, thereby straining their relationship.
However, Eric Garcia’s stint with Barcelona has proven to be less than fruitful, as he finds himself on the fringes of the team.
The emergence of Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde, and Inigo Martinez has relegated him to a lower position in the selection hierarchy. Consequently, the young player has only been granted a mere 11 minutes of playing time throughout this season.
Given his diminished role and status within the center-back lineup at the Catalan club, Garcia’s future hangs in the balance. Recent reports have connected him with potential moves to clubs within La Liga and Serie A. Nevertheless, as the summer transfer window draws to a close, the possibility of a transition to Arsenal looms for the out-of-favor Barcelona defender.
Notably, Arsenal has gained a reputation for recruiting players from Manchester City in the past year, even expressing interest in Aymeric Laporte and Joao Cancelo during this summer.
Yet, while Laporte has ventured to Al-Nassr and Cancelo stands on the verge of joining Barcelona, Arsenal could indirectly uphold there connections with Manchester City through the acquisition of Eric Garcia.
The 22-year-old has lingered on Arsenal’s radar for a substantial period. Given Jurrien Timber’s prolonged absence due to a knee injury, the acquisition of a central defender stands as a logical move for Arsenal. Furthermore, Garcia’s adeptness with the ball adds to his allure as a potential target for the North London club.
Recent reports have also intertwined Arsenal’s name with Perr Schuurs. As the days dwindle, it remains intriguing to observe whether Arsenal will secure a central defender to step in for the sidelined Timber in the upcoming week.
Nonetheless, time is of the essence for Arsenal to finalize the finishing touches to their first-team roster.
