Bill Gates Calls Divorce from Melinda His ‘Biggest Regret’ in Rare Admission

Bill Gates has opened up about his divorce from Melinda Gates, admitting that it is the “mistake” he regrets most in his life.

In an interview with The Times of London published this past Saturday, the Microsoft co-founder, now 69, shared his reflections on the end of his 27-year marriage to the philanthropist and former wife.

While Gates mentioned that he is “more cheerful now,” he made it clear that the breakdown of his marriage remains a painful chapter.

“There are others, but none that matter,” he said, acknowledging that the divorce was “miserable” for both him and Melinda for at least two years.

The couple, who announced their split in May 2021 after a year of separation, has since moved on to date other people but continues to maintain a cordial relationship, particularly for the sake of their three children—Jennifer, 28, Rory, 25, and Phoebe, 22—and two grandchildren.

Gates revealed that they still see each other at family events, emphasizing that their kids have turned out well and possess “good values.”

Bill also reflected on the role Melinda played in keeping him “grounded” during the creation of Microsoft, which ultimately grew into the trillion-dollar tech empire it is today.

He expressed gratitude for the support she provided throughout the marriage, despite its difficult ending.

Though Bill and Melinda’s personal lives have taken different paths, their commitment to family remains a constant.
