LOUISVILLE, KY — What began as a minor domestic dispute over snacks intended for children escalated into a violent shooting Sunday evening, leaving a Louisville woman wounded and a 57-year-old man facing multiple felony charges.

The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department (LMPD) arrested Kenneth Beals on Sunday following a report of a gunshot victim arriving at the University of Louisville Hospital emergency room. The victim, who suffered a non-life-threatening wound to her left arm, told investigators that the violence was triggered by a simple inquiry regarding food she had purchased for her kids.

According to the arrest citation, the incident began when the victim’s aunt observed Beals eating snacks that did not belong to him. After being alerted by her aunt, the victim encountered Beals as he was attempting to leave the residence.

When the woman asked Beals if he had eaten the children’s food, he reportedly replied, “Yes, I ate your snack, and it was good,” before allegedly brandishing a handgun and firing a single round into her arm.

Witnesses at the scene corroborated the victim’s account, identifying Beals as the shooter. Following the discharge of the weapon, the victim was forced to drive herself to the hospital, arriving just after 7:00 p.m. for emergency treatment.

Beals, who has a prior criminal record, was taken into custody without further incident. He now faces serious legal consequences, including charges of second-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Under Kentucky law, these charges carry significant prison time if a conviction is secured.

Beals is currently being held at the Louisville Metropolitan Detention Center on a $5,000 bond. He was arraigned Monday morning, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 6, 2026.
