A daring treasure hunt has captured the imagination of adventurers across America, thanks to entrepreneur and early Bitcoin investor Jon Collins-Black. Inspired by his childhood dream of finding treasure, Collins-Black has buried five chests filled with valuables worth an estimated $2 million in undisclosed locations across the United States.
The treasure hunt, which Collins-Black has been planning for five years, invites participants to solve a series of complex clues laid out in his book There’s Treasure Inside.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the entrepreneur began acquiring rare and valuable items to fill the chests. These include a Casascius Bitcoin (one of the first physical bitcoins ever made), a green Colombian emerald, a 2002 Shining Charizard Pokémon card, antiques from a shipwreck, and George Washington’s jelly glass.

Each chest is also a puzzle box, requiring treasure hunters to unlock them using instructions detailed in the book.
Collins-Black, who attributes his wealth to early Bitcoin investments, emphasized that the chests are not hidden on private property, making them accessible to anyone.

However, he warns that the treasure hunt isn’t for the faint-hearted. “You need to follow a series of clues and have a sharp mind to find even one of the chests,” he told Business Insider. He also stressed that only he knows the chests’ locations, so quizzing friends or family will be futile.
“I was actually trying to figure out what the sweet spot would be as far as how big to make this without making it too big, I didn’t want people to go too crazy, ” Collins-Black said
According to him, he had a “loose budget” for the treasure’s value. Based on the price he paid for the items at auction, he estimated that the total value of the stash, at press time, was between $2 million and $3 million. But frequently fluctuating items such as bitcoin could change the chests’ worth.
Collins-Black expressed his excitement about the potential impact on the lucky finders. “If Bitcoin goes to $500,000 or $1 million, or these treasures are worth $10 million in five to seven years, then I think I’ll just celebrate that and be happy for it,” he said.
For those who find the book’s clues too cryptic, Collins-Black has a contingency plan. He intends to release additional hints in 8 to 10 years if the treasures remain undiscovered.
However, he has no desire for the hunt to become a never-ending mystery. “I don’t want this to outlive me,” he explained. “I don’t want to drag it on forever.”
