BET Awards 2020: Burna Boy Wins Best International Act Award

Nigerian music star, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu Rex known professionally as Burna Boy, has won the award for Best International Act at 2020 BET Awards.

The Ceremony was held on Saturday, June 27, 2020. It was aired virtually due to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus respiratory disease.

Burna Boy fought a great fight to defeat his colleagues in the same category as him. He was nominated alongside other international stars such as Innoss’B (DRC), Sho Madjozi (South African), Dave (UK), Stormzy (UK), Ninho & S.Pri Noir (France).

And this win marks the second time in a roll that the Grammy nominated singer and songwriter has won BET’s Best International Act awards.

To accept his win, below was what the Nigerian singer said as his acceptance speech.

“I’ll like to use this opportunity to say that sometime around 1835, there was a mission to turn Africa into a dominated nation. Now is the time to overturn that and go back to the royalty that we were, because, in order for black lives to matter, Africa must matter.”
