Official: Chelsea sack Graham Potter

English premiership side, Chelsea has sacked Graham Potter as their head coach; Potter has lasted just seven months in the job at Stamford Bridge

The team’s poor performance, culminating in a 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa, left them in 11th place in the Premier League table, trailing Manchester United by 12 points.

To make matters worse, during the match, some Chelsea supporters chanted “you don’t know what you’re doing” at Potter, adding to the pressure on him. Consequently, the club decided to terminate his contract after a season marked by significant losses.

On Sunday, April 2, 2023, the football club made an official statement on its website announcing the decision to part ways with its coach.

As per the official club statement, Chelsea has announced that Potter has agreed to assist the club in ensuring a seamless transition. The statement also thanked him for his efforts and contributions during his tenure and wished him the best for his future endeavors.

Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club. Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition. In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future. – Chelsea said in the statement.

The club statement read

Co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said: ‘On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea. We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome.

‘Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season. We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.’

Who Will Replace Graham Potter at Chelsea?

The football club has appointed former Brighton defender, Bruno Saltor, as the interim head coach. The team is set to play against Liverpool on Tuesday.
