Chelsea bullied by Karim Benzeman after a stunning hat-trick as Madrid claimed a vital win

Defending champions Chelsea fell to a 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in Wednesday Champions League 1st leg of the quarter-final, which saw Karim Benzema netted hat-trick for the Spanish giants.

The Blues will need a huge performance in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final at the Santiago Bernabéu after their defeat.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel who had dismissed Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat against Brentford in the Premier League as nothing to worry about was again bullied by Los Blancos.

The Blues loss had exposed some major flaws in Chelsea’s defence that they have to work on if they are to qualify to the next round.

“The first half was a repetition of the second half against Brentford“, Tuchel said.

“We were so far off our level in every aspect that this game demands“.

“The game was killed off with a big mistake in the second half. We gave it away in a moment that is simply impossible“.

“The individual decisions were far from our level and our standards. It is on all of us. I’m included in this.”

Wednesday game against the reigning European champions Chelsea was a witness of Karim Benzema playing a pivotal part in the rise of Vinicius Junior.

Chelsea couldn’t handle Vinicius threat on the left with pace and skills on the break as he set up his partner in crime Benzema to smash home the opening goal of the game in the 21st minutes.

Modric then curled a beautiful ball into Benzema, who leaned back to head across goal and double Madrid’s lead after 2 minutes.

Five minutes before half time, Kai Havertz then put Chelsea back into the tie with the third goal of the evening and third header of the game.

Benzema’s third right after a minute of the second half, put the game to bed as he had his hat-trick.

The Blues missed a number of chances to get back into the game and reduce the deficit.

Madrid take an important lead back to the Spanish capital for next week’s second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.

“We had a fantastic performance up front from Benzema,” Ancelotti said.
