Christian Eriksen has officially confirmed that he will part ways with Manchester United at the end of June when his contract expires, marking the end of a memorable chapter with the club.

The Danish midfielder delivered a poignant farewell in United’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season. Coming off the bench in the second half, Eriksen capped his final appearance by converting a late penalty in front of a home crowd at Old Trafford.

The moment was orchestrated by United head coach Ruben Amorim, who instructed Bruno Fernandes to hand over the ball, allowing Eriksen to bid an emotional farewell with a goal.

Asked after the match whether it was his last appearance in a United shirt, Eriksen told TNT Sports: “Yes, that is correct. I think that is also why Bruno gave me a penalty as a nice farewell. I think we did it today for the fans. It has been a tough season, but I am going to wish them all the best. It is an incredible stadium, an incredible club and I have no doubt I will be back at some point.

“It has been an exciting few years being in this stadium and playing for this club. I have enjoyed it and I take a lot of good memories with me.”

Looking ahead, the 32-year-old added: “First of all, a holiday and relax, and then the national team. “Then I will see what the future holds. I am still fit to play.”

Eriksen joined Manchester United on a free transfer in July 2022 following a standout spell at Brentford, which marked his return to football after suffering a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020. Over his two-year tenure at Old Trafford, he made over 100 appearances and scored eight goals.

The match also served as a farewell for veteran defender Jonny Evans, who made his 241st and final appearance for the club. Evans, whose contract also expires this summer, is expected to retire.

In addition, Swedish international Victor Lindelof, signed for £30 million under José Mourinho’s reign, will also depart the club as a free agent when his contract ends.
