Apple TV+ has locked in the return of its gritty crime thriller Criminal Record, announcing that Season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, April 22, with new episodes rolling out weekly until the finale on June 10.
The series brings back Peter Capaldi as Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty and Cush Jumbo as Detective Sergeant June Lenker, reviving one of television’s most tense law-enforcement rivalries.
This time, however, the two officers are no longer locked in opposition. Instead, circumstances force them into an uneasy partnership that could carry far-reaching consequences.
Season 1 centered on a bitter professional tug-of-war between Hegarty, a powerful and deeply entrenched senior detective, and Lenker, a rising officer early in her career, as they clashed over the integrity of a murder conviction.
The conflict exposed questions of power, justice, and institutional loyalty inside London’s police force. Season 2 expands that moral battlefield.
Set once again in contemporary London, the new chapter escalates the stakes beyond a single case. According to Apple TV, “When a young man is stabbed to death at a political rally, rival police officers June Lenker and Daniel Hegarty are forced into an uneasy alliance. But what starts as a hunt for a murderer escalates into an undercover operation to foil a Far-Right bomb plot in the heart of London.”
Capaldi and Jumbo are joined by returning cast members Shaun Dooley, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Charlie Creed-Miles. New additions for Season 2 include Dustin Demri-Burns, Luca Pasqualino, Luther Ford, Lyndsey Marhsall, and Peter Sullivan, expanding the ensemble as the narrative widens into political extremism and covert police work.
Criminal Record was created by Paul Rutman and is produced for Apple TV+ by Tod Productions and STV Studios. Executive producers include Elaine Collins, Rutman, Capaldi, and Jumbo. Directing duties for the season are shared by Ben A. Williams and Joelle Mae David.
A trailer for Season 2 has not yet been released.
