The wait is over as HBO finally announces the Last of Us season 2 release date.
HBO confirmed the release date which is less than two months away from this very publication in their official social media handles on social media on Wednesday, February 19.
Release Date: In the announcement, the second installment of the post-apocalyptic thriller series is set to premiere on HBO on Sunday, April 13, 2025. More details, including cast, and trailer are added below.
Recall that HBO renewed The Last of Us for a second season less than two weeks after the series premiere aired in January 2023
Season 1 is set twenty years after a pandemic brought on by a widespread fungal illness that turns its people into zombie-like creatures and destroys society. It is based on the 2013 Naughty Dog video game franchise.
However, the second season, which is based on the 2020 game The Last of Us Part II, introduces Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) five years after the events of the first season.
“Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind,” according to HBO’s narrative summary for Season 2.
Players discover at the beginning of the second game that Joel and Ellie have moved to Jackson, the survivors’ colony they visited in the previous season. The game includes flashbacks to significant events from the time period that was skipped over, despite the time jump.
Season 2 Announcement
Pedro Pascal, who portrays Joel in the previously mentioned series, is seen standing and slanting slightly back in the lately circulated photos. A lengthy trail is in front of him, and he is even shown wearing a jacket and wielding his iconic weapon. The slogan “Every path has a price” is displayed on the poster.

As mentioned above, the new character exactly the one everyone has been waiting for is hinted at in the third and most captivating photograph. Kaitlyn Dever is shown wearing the attire of Abby Anderson as she walks forward, while also looking back with a gun in her right hand.
