Donald Trump Files $15 Billion Defamation Lawsuit Against The New York Times
Donald Trump $15 billion lawsuit against New York Times
Quick summary
  • Donald Trump files $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times.
  • Lawsuit alleges “decades-long pattern” of false reporting.
  • Trump calls the paper a “mouthpiece for the Radical Left Democrat Party.”
  • He has also sued The Wall Street Journal, ABC News, and Paramount.

U.S. President Donald Trump has filed a staggering $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times and four of its journalists, court documents obtained by the Associated Press confirm.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court in Florida, accuses the publication of deliberately publishing false and damaging content.

It cites several articles and a book authored by two of the newspaper’s journalists in the lead-up to the 2024 election, alleging they form “part of a decades-long pattern by the New York Times of intentional and malicious defamation against President Trump.”

According to the filing, “Defendants published such statements negligently, with knowledge of the falsity of the statements, and/or with reckless disregard of their truth or falsity.”

Taking to Truth Social, Trump directly addressed his supporters while accusing the Times of political bias:

“Defendants published such statements negligently, with knowledge of the falsity of the statements, and/or with reckless disregard of their truth or falsity.”

He went further, declaring that the newspaper has become “a virtual ‘mouthpiece’ for the Radical Left Democrat Party.”

This is not Trump’s first legal clash with major news organizations. In July, he launched a $10 billion lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal and media mogul Rupert Murdoch after a story linked him to wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein.

However, in Monday’s statement, Trump declared: “The New York Times has been allowed to freely lie, smear, and defame me for far too long, and that stops, NOW!”

He also pointed to pending legal battles with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos and Paramount, over its 60 Minutes interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris.
