Elon Musk Warns X Could Be Shut Down If Kamala Harris Wins Election

Tesla and X (formerly Twitter) CEO Elon Musk has issued a stark warning, claiming that a President Kamala Harris could use her position to shut down his social media platform.

Speaking in an interview with podcaster Joe Rogan, Musk raised concerns that Harris, if elected, would leverage government power to stifle free speech on X.

Musk, who purchased Twitter for $44 billion in 2022 with the stated goal of protecting free speech, spoke passionately about the platform’s future.

“If Kamala wins, we’ll see the advertiser boycott get stronger, and they’ll friggin’ shut [X] down,” he said. “There’s no way that a Kamala puppet regime would allow X to exist.”

The tech entrepreneur was particularly critical of the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), a group Musk has previously accused of pushing advertisers to pull their support from X.

Last year, X sued CCDH, alleging the group had exaggerated claims about harmful content on the platform to sabotage its business.

Musk also pushed back against critics who claim his acquisition of Twitter was a poor business decision. He dismissed their arguments, saying, “It wasn’t worth $44 billion to begin with, and you’re not accounting for the advertiser boycott. That’s total bulls—.”

In the interview, Musk suggested that if former President Donald Trump were to win, the advertising boycott would likely ease.

But with a victory for Kamala Harris, he predicted increased pressure from the government, potentially leading to X’s closure.

Musk speculated that one route to shutting down the platform could be through legal pressure, with the Department of Justice (DOJ) taking action over accusations of “hate speech” or “misinformation”—though Musk argued that those pushing such claims are often the ones spreading misinformation themselves.

Musk’s comments come at a time of heightened political tensions over social media’s role in shaping public discourse.

His warnings have stirred further debate about the power of government regulation versus free speech online.
