A key staffer working under Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency has resigned after a series of offensive and now-deleted social media posts resurfaced.
Marko Elez, a 25-year-old software engineer, was involved in Musk’s DOGE initiative to streamline government operations, focusing on cost-cutting and fraud prevention.
Elez, who had previously worked at Musk’s companies, X and SpaceX, held a critical position at the U.S. Treasury Department.
There, he was one of two temporary appointees connected to the DOGE project and had access to highly sensitive Treasury systems that handle trillions of dollars in annual payments.
However, his resignation came after posts linked to his X account were reported by The Wall Street Journal. These posts, some dating back to 2024, were filled with disturbing racist comments.

One of the posts from September read, “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity,” while another said, “Normalize Indian hate.”
In a shocking revelation, Elez even wrote in July, “Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool.”
The controversial posts didn’t stop there. In December, Elez shared sentiments about repealing the Civil Rights Act and advocated for what he called a “eugenic immigration policy.”
The posts have since been deleted, but the damage was already done. As news of Elez’s activities spread, White House officials confirmed his resignation, further distancing the Musk administration from the scandal.
The incident raises serious concerns about the vetting process for individuals in sensitive governmental positions and highlights the growing scrutiny of social media activity in today’s workplace.
