In a significant move for English football, Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as the new manager of the England men’s national team.
The 51-year-old German coach will officially take the reins on January 1, 2025, marking a new chapter for the team following Gareth Southgate’s resignation in July after a disappointing defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
Tuchel becomes the third non-British permanent manager for the England team, joining the ranks of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
His extensive managerial experience includes successful stints with clubs such as Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and most recently, Bayern Munich, where he left at the end of last season.
Expressing his excitement over the new role, Tuchel stated, “I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team.
I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already.
To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.”

The Football Association’s chief executive, Mark Bullingham, praised Tuchel as “one of the best coaches in the world.”
The FA confirmed that Tuchel was the “preferred candidate” among several interviewed for the position.
The decision was approved by the FA board last week, and Tuchel signed his contract on October 8.
The announcement was delayed to minimize distractions around the recent international camp.
Until Tuchel officially takes over, Lee Carsley will continue as interim manager, overseeing upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland next month.
Tuchel will be joined by English coach Anthony Barry as his assistant, further solidifying his connection to the English football landscape.
As Tuchel prepares to lead England into a new era, fans and players alike are eager to see how his tactical acumen will shape the future of the national team.
