2022 World Cup Qualifiers: FIFA changes date for Ghana vs Nigeria game

International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) which is a non-profit organization that describes itself as an international governing body of association football has changed the dates for the upcoming World Cup Qatar 2022 play-offs matches between Ghana and Nigeria to different dates.

As previously made known, the Black Stars of Ghana were to play the Super Eagles of Nigeria next month Thursday, March 24 (in the first leg), and Sunday, March 27 (second leg), but FIFA thinks otherwise as new dates have now been fixed and published.

This news on the date transfer was confirmed by the official website of GFA, Ghana Football Association, taking to their website to announce the changes.

The fixture which was originally scheduled for Thursday, March 24 and Sunday, March 27, has been moved to Friday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

The first leg game will be held in Ghana, where the black stars will be hosting Nigeria at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday, March 25, whereas the second leg takes place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday, March 29.

The winner of the tie will represent the continent at the World football showpiece which is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 18, 2022, in Qatar.

Ghana has qualified for three FIFA World Cup tournaments; 2006, 2010, and 2014.

Ghana back in the year 2006, were the only African country to advance to the second round of the 2006 FIFA World Cup with the youngest team in the tournament that very year.

In the 2010 World Cup, Ghana progressed beyond the group stages and reached the quarter-finals where they were eliminated by Uruguay. Ghana was defeated by Uruguay on penalties after Luis Suárez controversially handballed on the goal line deep into extra time, denying Ghana an almost certain winning goal.

Had Ghana won their quarter-final, they would have become the first African nation to progress to the semi-finals of the world cup. Of the 32 countries that participated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, FIFA ranked Ghana 7th.

Well, Nigeria, on the other hand, has also qualified for the world cup tournament three times, the same number as Ghana, they made their appearances in the years; 2010, 2014, and 2018 and are however eying a fourth return to the tournament.

The upcoming FIFA 2022 World Cup Qualifiers between the two great West African countries will determine who will represent after it comes to an end, Ghana will also be tring their very best to get a recovery to re-enter after mission out in 2018.
