Foden’s goal seals Man City’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth

Manchester City’s hard-fought victory over Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium left them one point behind Liverpool, the Premier League leaders.

City got off to a poor start, but midway through the first half, Phil Foden headed home after Neto had saved an Erling Haaland shot.

After dominating the second half, the visitors were lucky not to be pegged back, with Marcus Tavernier first scuffing a shot into the ground from Antoine Semenyo’s cross and then missing after excellent work from Dominic Solanke.

As Bournemouth kept up the pressure, Ederson knocked Solanke’s header off the line, and with fifteen minutes left, Neto saved another attempt from Haaland.

Enes Unal, a second-half substitute, desperately missed a header in stoppage time for the home team, but City held on to secure second place in advance of two pivotal games in early March—at home against Manchester United and away against Liverpool.

With seven straight league games without a victory, Bournemouth falls to 14th place but maintains an eight-point lead over the relegation zone.
