Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, while in conversation with Ibai Llanos, opened up about former club president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his resignation.
Pique was speaking to recognized streamer and e-sports presenter Ibai in a casual conversation on Twitch. The pair spoke about Bartomeu, Pique’s recovery from injury, teammates, colleagues, and much more.
Known for speaking his mind without any hesitation, Pique slammed the former Barça president for the problems he created during his tenure. It is no secret how Barcelona has descended into chaos in recent years, with financial and sporting burdens ever increasing.

Pique revealed how Bartomeu displayed a lack of leadership and in tough times for the club, the problems kept piling on.
“When you try to escape from problems & you delegate and you don’t appear, everything becomes very complicated. Problems are not solved by themselves.
“The club needed more leadership, for the president to show his face. We went from misunderstandings to problems and that’s how things had ended.” , the center-back said.
He even spoke about how Bartomeu refused to speak to the players on numerous occasions. A situation eerily similar to the one described by Lionel Messi during the infamous burofax saga, where Bartomeu constantly delayed talking to Messi about his contract.
“I had told him about more than once, ‘Presi, come to the dressing room or come to the Sports City [training ground]. We need to talk’, but he never came.”, Pique revealed.
The 34-year-old also went as far as comparing Bartomeu to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, adding that: “Florentino [Perez] has qualities that Bartomeu never had.”
Pique concluded the chat with a sense of optimism about the upcoming presidential elections: “The three candidates are competent. Whoever wins is going to do well.
We must look towards the future, looking at the past only serves to correct mistakes. Those of us who are members will vote. I don’t know how many members we have in the team.”
