Tech news on Townflex; Google to Offer Gemini AI Tools to Federal Agencies at Just 47 Cents

Google has announced a major deal with the United States General Services Administration (GSA) to enable federal agencies with access to its advanced Gemini for Government artificial intelligence (AI) tools and cloud services for only 47 cents per use. The offer, which will last until 2026, reflects the growing effort to integrate AI technology into federal operations.

The announcement mirrors recent moves by OpenAI and Anthropic, which struck similar symbolic deals to offer their government AI tools for $1 annually.

“Federal agencies can now significantly transform their operations by using the tools in ‘Gemini for Government’, thanks to this agreement with Google and the Trump Administration’s leadership revolutionizing AI for the U.S. government,” acting GSA Administrator Michael Rigas said in a statement.

Earlier this month, the GSA expanded its government purchasing system to include Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Anthropic’s Claude, while xAI’s Grok was added in July.

The move is consistent with President Trump’s AI Action Plan, which seeks to expedite the deployment of artificial intelligence across federal agencies in order to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and modernize government services.

This is not the first large discount agreement between Google and the federal government. In April, the IT behemoth agreed to provide its Workspace productivity tools to agencies at a 71% discount.

“Building on our Workspace offer for federal employees, Gemini for Government gives federal agencies access to our full stack approach to AI innovation, including tools like NotebookLM and Veo powered by our latest models and our secure cloud infrastructure, so they can deliver on their important missions,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a statement.

The agreement demonstrates the competitive battle among big AI companies to acquire government collaborations while also guaranteeing that taxpayer-funded institutions have inexpensive access to cutting-edge technologies.
