Antisemitism: Jewish organisations reject Kanye West’s public apology
StopAntisemitism & AJC Reject Kanye West’s Apology

Kanye West’s recent Instagram apology to the Jewish people after watching “21 Jump Street” has not been enough to earn him forgiveness, as the Jewish organizations StopAntisemitism and the American Jewish Organization say that he will have to do more to make amends.

In a previous publication, we reported that the rapper had posted on his official Instagram account, stating that he no longer identifies as an antisemite and has had a change of heart regarding his views on Jewish people, which he attributes to watching the 2012 movie “21 Jump Street” featuring actors Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

However, in the recent Instagram post, Kanye (now known as ‘Ye’) shared the movie artwork for “21 Jump Street” and expressed his newfound positive views towards Jewish people, stating that no one should harbor hatred towards innocent people based on the actions of a few individuals.

Kanye said, “Watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street made me like Jewish people again. No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people.”

StopAntisemitism & AJC Reject Kanye West’s Apology

Several Jewish organizations have criticized Kanye West’s apology for his past antisemitic remarks as insufficient. They argue that his actions have caused harm, including praising Hitler, denying the Holocaust’s death toll, and making threatening comments towards the Jewish people. StopAntisemitic and the American Jewish Committee have called for more significant action than just watching a movie.

According to Richard Hirschhaut, a representative of the AJC, it seems strange that all it takes for Kanye to renounce his antisemitism is to watch an 11-year-old movie featuring Jonah Hill. However, he acknowledges that only Kanye knows if he is sincere in his apology.

“It is a little odd that all it might take for Kanye to renounce his vile antisemitism is to watch and 11-year-old Jonah Hill movie. Whether Kanye is sincere, only he knows”

ARichard Hirschhaut

Liora Rez, executive director of StopAntisemitism, also believes that joking about a Jonah Hill movie is not an acceptable apology from Kanye, particularly when his remarks have led to a dangerous trickle-down effect of hatred towards Jews. StopAntisemitism previously named Kanye the “Antisemite Of The Year,” and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) linked his remarks to 30 antisemitic incidents in the U.S.

“Joking about a movie with Jonah Hill is not the apology that the Jewish people deserve from Kanye, particularly when his antisemitic tirades continue to have a dangerous trickle-down effect of hatred against Jews”

Liora Rez

While both organizations believe that Kanye can still redeem himself, they call for him to make more significant efforts. StopAntisemitism suggests that he denounce Nick Fuentes, while the AJC wants Kanye to renounce each of his repeated, threatening, and vile expressions of antisemitism.
