Diogo Jota could be out for months

Joel Matip, the centre back, and midfielders Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are among the other players not present.

With attacker Diogo Jota ruled out for “months” and midfielder Curtis Jones and goalkeeper Alisson Becker without a scheduled comeback date, Liverpool’s injury issue only becomes worse.

Jota and Jones joined the list of players who are now out of action, which now stands at nine senior players. This is not ideal as the team continues to battle on four fronts, especially with the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp, the manager, stated ahead of Luton’s midweek visit, “We have Diogo with a knee issue ruled out – it will obviously take months.”

“Ali (Alisson) is not available; he has a muscle injury that may take some time to heal, and Curtis is ruled out due to a bone or ligament problem.

Then there are the others, which we believe we can handle day by day. Longer term players like Dom (Dominik Szoboszlai) and Trent (Alexander-Arnold) are returning, but they are not yet in team training, therefore they are not available.

In addition, Joel Matip (ACL), Stefan Bajcetic, and Thiago Alcantara, two midfielders, are not available. Darwin Nunez, a striker, was substituted as a precaution at the half of Saturday’s victory against Brentford.
