Jussie Smollett sentenced to 150 days in jail for filing false attack report

Former Empire movie series actor, Jussie Smollett has been sentenced to a 150-days jail term for filing a false police report that he was the victim of a hate crime in January 2019.

It will be recalled that back in 2019, we made a publication regarding the arrest of the actor which can be read here.

Smollett, 39, was found guilty in December on five of six felony counts of disorderly conduct for making a false e report to Chicago police that he was the victim of a hate crime in January 2019 which is a Class 4 felony and punishable by up to three years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

Although some legal experts came out came out at that moment and said it is unlikely the actor will be given such a prison sentence based on the fact that he has a clean criminal record and the non-violent nature of the charges which is seen as low-level class 4 felonies.

What happened?
According to the Chicago Police Department back in 2019, the actor allegedly filed false police reports in January after claiming he was attacked by two men.

The two men who were first believed committed the crime were both arrested by the police for questioning and later got released with the claims that they were paid by the same actor to attack him.

According to reports, the two were Nigerian-born brothers, Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo who were paid to land an attack on him in a way to promote his career because he was not okay with the salary for his EMPIRE movie.

Update: Jussie Smollett sentenced

A Chicago Cook County Judge by the name James Linn, on Thursday, March 10, 2022, court case hearing, sentenced the film actor to 150 days in jail and also 30 months of probation for filing up a false report about an incident he himself orchestrated.

Smollett has also been ordered to pay restitution of more than $120,000 and a $25,000 fine at the George N. Leighton criminal courthouse in Chicago.

Jussie Smollett, 39, after the sentence exalted his innocence, shouted saying he is innocent and could have said he was guilty a very long time ago should it be true as he was being led out of the courtroom after hearing of the sentence.

“I am innocent. I could have said I am guilty a long time ago,” Smollett shouted.

Smollett’s defense attorney Nenye Uche, asked the judge, Linn to limit the sentence to community service for his client but said his client has lost almost everything in his career and finances and also give him some time to make restitution if that is part of the sentence.
