Kanye West is no new to legal difficulties, and it appears that the rapper is facing another lawsuit—this time for $1.5 million.
On Thursday, August 8, two celebrity photography companies filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in a California federal court, alleging that Ye utilized at least ten photographs without authorization on his Instagram account and the Yeezy website.
According to the USA Herald, BackGrid USA Inc. and its British subsidiary, BackGrid London Ltd., allege that the star’s unauthorized usage of the photographs cost them “up to hundreds of thousands of dollars” in potential revenue.
The pictures at the center of the complaint show West and his wife, Bianca Censori. According to XXL, one of the photographs depicts West dressed in all black, walking with Censori, who is dressed in sheers and holding a purple pillow.

A second photo shows West and Censori in Milan’s Nuova Arena Restaurant in February, and a third shows the couple shopping at the Balenciaga store.
Most of the other cases West has received are related to unlawful sampling. According to federal court documents, the rapper has been sued at least 14 times for alleged “unlicensed sampling (the use of a copyrighted sound recording) or interpolating (the use of a copyrighted composition)” in his songs, according to Billboard.
In 2023, the celebrity was sued by two former teachers from Donda Academy, the private, unaccredited Christian school he founded in Ventura County, California. Cecilia Hailey and her daughter Chekarey Byers accused West of breaching education, health, and safety laws, firing educators based on race and retaliation, and failing to pay instructors properly.
The BackGrid lawsuit comes after West released his latest album with Ty Dolla Sign, Vultures 2, earlier this month.
