A Louisville woman has been arrested and charged with attempting to kill her sister by deliberately setting a mattress on fire while she slept, according to local authorities.

Louisville Metro Police identified the suspect as 22-year-old Addison Brown, who is now facing charges of attempted homicide, arson, and wanton endangerment, WLKY reported.

The chilling incident unfolded on June 1, when Brown’s sister, whose name has not been released, awoke to find the mattress in flames. She managed to extinguish the fire before it spread further. At least four other people were inside the home at the time, but none sustained injuries, according to investigators.

By the time emergency responders arrived, Brown had already fled the scene, WHAS reported. Detectives later revealed that Brown allegedly sent messages to several people including her sister, admitting that she had set the fire with the intent to kill her.

Brown was taken into custody Thursday night and is being held on a $250,000 bond.

This case has drawn significant attention in Louisville, highlighting the severe risks posed by domestic violence, family disputes, and arson-related crimes.

Legal experts note that attempted homicide cases involving arson can result in decades-long prison sentences if a conviction is secured.
