A Florida landlord is facing charges after allegedly fatally shooting his tenant in a violent dispute over a thermostat adjustment.
The incident took place early on the morning of January 25, 2025, at a home in Westchester, just outside Miami.
According to the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Adam Louis Anson approached his tenant, 57-year-old Carlos Alberto Gonzalez, and knocked on his window. Anson reportedly wanted to change the thermostat in a shared hallway.
When Gonzalez opened the door, Anson forced his way inside and began punching him without provocation.

The situation escalated further when Anson dragged Gonzalez into the backyard and allegedly shot him multiple times in the head.
Afterward, Anson returned to Gonzalez’s apartment to adjust the thermostat before calling 911 to report the incident, claiming self-defense after Gonzalez allegedly tried to strike him.

Deputies arrived to find Gonzalez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital, but later died from his injuries.
Anson was arrested on January 25 and charged with second-degree murder and burglary with armed assault.
He is scheduled for a court appearance on January 27.
Neighbors described Gonzalez as a quiet and friendly man, shocked by the tragedy that unfolded in their peaceful community.
