A shocking incident in Jennings, Louisiana, has led to the arrest of a 62-year-old woman accused of multiple drug-related offenses and assaulting her granddaughter over missing methamphetamine.
On Saturday, the Jennings Police Department announced that Margo Lynn Pattum was taken into custody and is facing a long list of criminal charges. She is now behind bars after police discovered a stash of illegal drugs and firearms in her home, following disturbing allegations of violence against her own granddaughter.
The investigation began on Thursday when officers responded to a call from a juvenile who claimed her grandmother had physically attacked her. The girl, identified only as Pattum’s granddaughter, told police that she was strangled after being accused of stealing methamphetamine.
Following the disturbing report, detectives obtained a search warrant for Pattum’s home. What they found inside shocked even seasoned officers.
Authorities uncovered a wide assortment of illegal narcotics, including methamphetamine, crack cocaine, marijuana, and several unknown pills. Along with the drugs, three firearms were also found—one of which had been previously reported as stolen.
Police said the discovery didn’t end there. As Pattum was being transported to jail, officers noticed suspicious behavior and discovered she had allegedly tried to hide even more drugs inside the police vehicle.
According to the Jennings Police Department, Pattum attempted to discard a container filled with what appeared to be crack cocaine behind the seat in the transport unit. This act led to an additional charge of obstruction of justice.
During a personal search at the time of her arrest, police found another container of crack cocaine in her possession, adding to the long list of charges already mounting against her.
In total, Margo Lynn Pattum is facing nine separate drug-related charges, including possession of methamphetamine, crack cocaine, marijuana, and various narcotic pills. She was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of firearm possession in the presence of controlled substances, and obstruction of justice.
The 62-year-old is currently being held on a $20,000 bond, while investigators continue to gather more evidence in the ongoing case.
The incident has sparked concern in the Jennings community, with many disturbed by the details involving a child and the dangerous mix of drugs and firearms. Local authorities have not yet announced if additional charges could be filed depending on the outcome of the investigation.
