Man City tops Premier League after 5-1 win over Luton

2 Min Read

Manchester City’s resounding victory over struggling Luton Town placed them atop the Premier League for at least a day.

Erling Haaland’s misdirected volley gave City the lead at Etihad Stadium in just 65 seconds as it struck Daiki Hashioka of Luton and flew into the net.

With a lovely soaring strike from close to the area’s edge by Mateo Kovacic, City doubled their lead in more than an hour.

Haaland’s penalty, following Jeremy Doku’s foul by Fred Onyedinma, effectively ended the match.

Ross Barkley scored a goal for the Hatters shortly after City made two substitutions, taking advantage of an error by Matheus Nunes.

But Doku cut in from the left to slot a fine solo goal into the bottom corner

The brilliant Doku set up City’s fifth goal when he found Josko Gvardiol, who hit a stunning shot into the upper corner for the defender’s second goal in as many games. Prior to that, the defender had not scored for City.
