In March of that year, Dunbar and Ware were headed to a paternity test near Phoenix, Arizona, when Dunbar was last seen alive.

According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, after the two argued, Ware violently killed Dunbar and set her body on fire, before abandoning their 7-month-old baby on the side of a road.

The baby was found by a couple, left in a car seat with Dunbar’s ID and other personal belongings.

Authorities launched a search, and the next day, Dunbar’s charred remains were found about three miles from where the baby had been discovered.

The case sent shockwaves through the community, particularly as Dunbar was remembered as a young mother trying to care for her child.

Ware, who was arrested shortly after, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and child endangerment charges. His sentencing marks the conclusion of a long and harrowing legal battle.

In the wake of Dunbar’s tragic death, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to help cover her funeral expenses and provide for the care of the infant, who was left without a mother.

The campaign also supported Dunbar’s mother, who faced her own health challenges and had to step in to care for her granddaughter.
