New York crossbow attempt

A disturbing New York attempted murder case is unfolding in Nassau County after authorities accused a 21-year-old man of trying to kill his sister with a crossbow outside their family home.

Police say the attack happened Saturday night when the 28-year-old woman returned from the gym and was closing the garage door. According to the Nassau County Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call reporting that the woman was bleeding from her face.

Investigators later determined that a hunting arrow had struck her, grazing the right side of her face. She was taken to a nearby hospital and listed in stable condition.

The suspect, identified as Samy Sedhom, was arrested the following day without incident.

According to court documents, Sedhom had reportedly been planning to kill his sister for months. Authorities say he later admitted to firing the crossbow and had been planning to kill her since Christmas. No motive has been publicly disclosed.

Investigators said the woman told officers she felt a sharp pain as she entered the code to close the garage. When she realized she was bleeding, she called police. She also reported seeing Sedhom sitting in a parked vehicle across the street from the home shortly before the incident.

During a search of the property, officers discovered a hunting arrow embedded in the garage wall. Inside Sedhom’s bedroom, police found a box that once contained the crossbow allegedly used in the shooting. Authorities also seized a Katana samurai sword and a laptop as part of the investigation.

Sedhom was arraigned Sunday in Nassau District Court in Mineola and pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and stalking. He was ordered held without bail at the Nassau County Jail and instructed to stay away from his sister. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 18.

The case remains under investigation.
