Manchester United is reportedly in discussions to appoint Ruben Amorim as the successor to Erik ten Hag, who was sacked following a disappointing start to the season.
The Portuguese manager, currently at Sporting Lisbon, has made a name for himself by winning two league titles with the club, including their first in 19 years.
As United seeks to rejuvenate its fortunes after a tumultuous beginning, Amorim, 39, emerges as the leading candidate for the role.

Meanwhile, United has appointed Ten Hag’s assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy, as interim manager, although it has yet to clarify how long he will remain in charge or whether he will lead the team in their upcoming Carabao Cup match against Leicester.
The club’s financial situation regarding compensation for both Ten Hag and a new coach has been a topic of discussion, but sources indicate that this is unlikely to pose a significant barrier to the appointment of Amorim.
Sporting previously paid 10 million euros (£8.3 million) to Braga to secure his services in 2020, which could be a comparable figure for United.
