The iconic Ghanaian rapper Medikal, whose actual name is Samuel Frimpong Adu, salvaged the Ghanaian music scene on Friday, May 3, 2024, when he performed a mega-concert at the O2 Indigo in London.

Medikal has much more in mind for the performance than just performing his classics. In his mind, it would be a celebration of Ghanaian music in its entirety.

On this mission, he wasn’t by himself. He was joined on stage by legendary Ghanaian musicians Shatta Wale and Sarkodie, demonstrating the strength and togetherness of the country’s music industry.

This concert has the power to alter everything. Ghana’s neighbours, South Africa and Nigeria, have occasionally cast a larger shadow over the country’s music scene.

However, the sold-out O2 Indigo shows that there is a rising enthusiasm for Ghanaian music throughout the world, following in the footsteps of other Ghanaian artists like Sarkodie and Shatta Wale.

His amazing performance reached its zenith when Sister Derby, his ex-girlfriend, joined him on stage. Seeing the two former sweethearts captivate the audience with their flawless stagecraft was a breath of fresh air.

This performance could serve as a launchpad for Ghanaian music, drawing greater interest and creating opportunities for other musicians. Ghanaians will never forget that night, which significantly elevated their music to a global platform.

Patrons who spoke to GhanaWeekend’s representative after the event congratulated the Medikal for putting up such a wonderful show.
