Messi Doesn’t Scare Us: Hernandez Says Ahead of World Cup Final

Theo Hernandez thinks Lionel Messi doesn’t frighten the defending champions France, who defeated Morocco 2-0 on Wednesday to advance to the World Cup final against Argentina.

Following Hernandez’s five-minute opening goal against Morocco, Randal Muani scored the second-fastest substitute goal in World Cup in just 44 seconds into the second half as France advanced to their fourth World Cup final in the previous seven competitions.

After the game, Hernandez asserted that Messi, who is perhaps the best player in football history and is participating in an incredible tournament at the age of 35, does not terrify France as it pursues its first World Cup victory.

Hernandez told Italian station RAI Sport that:

“Playing two World Cup finals in a row is an incredible moment, We did a good job, it was hard, but we are in the final.

“We will work hard to win this final. Now we have to think about the final. I’m tired, but it’s nice to win a World Cup semi-final.

“Now let’s recover for Sunday. Messi doesn’t scare us, Argentina are an incredible team but we have a few days to work.”

Since Brazil accomplished so more than 20 years ago in 2002, France is the first team to advance to consecutive finals.

Les Bleus won their second World Cup in 2018 after defeating Croatia 4-2 in Moscow thanks to goals from Antoine Greizmann, Paul Pogba, and Kylian Mbappe.

Four years after taking over, Didier Deschamps will attempt to become just the second manager in history to win two World Cup championship medals.

“This victory provides emotion and pride,” he iterated. “Today (Wednesday) was a very important match.

“We’ve been together with the players for a month now, it’s never easy and we’ve also had luck so far, the players have been rewarded as a team and we’ll look for the title Sunday. It’s wonderful.”

Argentina will make every effort to prevent France from becoming the first side to successfully defend their World Cup title since Brazil in 1962.
