Ghanaians may have to wait at least an additional five weeks if their data service providers continue to disrupt their lives.

This is due to the National Communication Authority’s (NCA) estimation that it might take that long to repair the malfunctioning undersea cables and establish reliable connections again in the impacted nations.

On March 16, 2024, a news statement was issued by the NCA on Saturday.

This came about during a discussion with ACE, MainOne, SAT-3, and WACS, the four subsea cable landing service providers.

It happens three days after the majority of telecom firms cut off their data services, which affected individuals and organisations in Ghana and other African nations.

Among the countries suffering the most are South Africa, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, Liberia, Benin, and Burkina Faso.

The subsea cable landing service providers, according to NCA, have located the damage’s approximate locations using remote means and are preparing to send out repair vessels to evaluate it.

From the time the vessels are dispatched to the various sites, NCA noted, “Based on the above, the subsea cable landing service providers have indicated an estimated time frame of a minimum of five (5) weeks for full service restoration.”

during, MTN, and Telecel were the three mobile network carriers present during the aforementioned meeting.

It further stated that it “recognises the impact the disruptions have had on economic, academic and social activities and assures the public of its commitment to continue collaborating with relevant stakeholders.”

The Authority anticipates “some improvement in data services in the coming days while the operators work around the clock to restore full connectivity” as a result of this.
