URGENT: NCA to restrict unregistered SIM cards starting today

Reports gathered by Townflex indicate that all incoming voice calls and data services will no longer be available to users whose SIM cards have not been registered as of today, September 5, 2022.

Following extensive consultations with the country’s telecoms companies, the National Communications Authority (NCA) came to the conclusion to restrict unregistered SIM cards.

Meanwhile, the Authority claims that the action is a part of retaliatory actions before the September 30, 2022, deadline for SIM re-registration.

Moreover, according to the communication minister, Ursula-Ekuful, the SIM re-registration process will commence on 30th September, 2022.

In response to the initial challenges faced by registrants who have not yet received or secured their national identification cards, the minister explained to reporters at a news conference that the delay was necessary.
