Dortmund declared that Reyna had inked a new deal that would last until June 2026 when they announced the loan.
Forest does not have the option to extend the loan agreement.
Reyna, the daughter of former American midfield player Claudio, was born at Sunderland, where his father was a player from 2001 to 2003.
An issue between his family and coach Gregg Berhalter prevented him from playing for the US World Cup team in Qatar in 2022.
