Otto Addo has been named the new head coach of the Black Stars by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association.

After a 15-month break, Addo, who held the role previously, is expected to take the helm of the men’s senior squad once again.

Addo takes up the position that he temporarily filled for the World Cup playoff games against Nigeria and the actual competition in Qatar. Additionally, he oversaw Ghana’s AFCON qualifying match against Madagascar, which was held in Cape Coast.

A 34-month contract with a two-year option to extend has been confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to Addo.

“Otto was outstanding throughout the interview process and garnered high praise from the search committee, leading to our decision,” GFA president Kurt Okraku said in a statement, expressing trust in Addo’s talents.

“The committee took the trouble to interview a portion of the coaches to get their thoughts on their intentions to transform the team within a short period of time due to our unique situation,” he stated. “There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job.”

Otto was recommended to the Executive Council for approval since the committee was quite pleased with his performance.

Addo is in his second year with the Black Stars as their head coach. The Ghana Football Association must compensate Borussia Dortmund for the decision to appoint him permanently; the precise amount is still unknown.

Addo is expected to return to Dortmund momentarily to finalise the transitional procedures before joining the Ghanaian team during the international break. He will then return to Ghana full-time in May 2024.

In addition, Otto Addo’s formal debut is expected to take place prior to Ghana’s March international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda.
