President Bola Tinubu has called for enhanced cooperation between Nigeria and France in several critical sectors, including food security, energy, education, and solid minerals.
This was highlighted during a high-profile meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palais des L’Élysée in Paris on November 28, 2024.
Speaking at a joint press conference, President Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to boosting bilateral ties with France and attracting more French investments, particularly in sectors vital to Nigeria’s development.
He noted that Nigeria’s financial sector is rapidly growing, presenting a promising opportunity for French businesses to invest, especially in food security and other key areas.
“The French-Nigeria Business Forum is already making strides, but we need to do more on food security. We cannot help but invest in each other’s countries,” Tinubu stated.
He also stressed the importance of creating an environment conducive to foreign investments, particularly from France, in Nigeria’s evolving economy.

In his remarks, the Nigerian President highlighted the significance of food security, stating that no child should go to bed hungry in the 21st century.
He also underscored the need for a robust food security program that would attract private sector investments and ensure the sustainable development of the nation’s agricultural sector.
Furthermore, Tinubu called on the French government to offer training programs to Nigeria’s youthful population, which is ready to embrace entrepreneurship and development opportunities.
He also discussed the potential for collaboration in the solid minerals sector and emphasized Nigeria’s efforts to de-risk investments in that field.
On security, Tinubu reiterated the importance of collective action to combat terrorism and migration challenges.
He also highlighted Nigeria’s untapped blue economy, particularly in fisheries, as a sector ripe for French investment.
President Macron welcomed Tinubu’s state visit, praising the Nigerian leader’s vision and leadership.
He expressed France’s commitment to reinforcing ties with Nigeria, particularly in areas like youth-focused initiatives and creative industries.
Macron assured that France would encourage more investments in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector and continue working towards global success through collaborative efforts.
